Thank you for responding to our questionnaire and survey. We appreciate you taking part in this research study. We would like to debrief you on why we have undertaken this research and what your participation means.
Why the study is being done
As we stated previously, we are undertaking a study into the Scottish Diaspora and attitudes and views around Scottish Independence. This would be for the Returned Scottish Diaspora now living back in Scotland, or those still residing elsewhere.
Diaspora and Independence Referendum Study
The Scottish Government is considering holding another Scottish Independence referendum in 2023 and we are seeking to explore your attitudes towards Scottish Independence. There were two questionnaires. One for those who have returned and are currently living in Scotland one for those currently living outwith Scotland (so please make sure you fill out the right one!). These were accessed on the questionnaire page by individuals responding to our request for further engagement.
We wanted to find out more about how Scots feel about any future Independence Referendum, and how they would vote, and who should be able to vote. We are interested to understand the views people have and what influences those views.
The Research Team
As you were informed prior to completing the questionnaire, this research is being conducted by Professor Murray Leith and Dr Duncan Sim of the University of the West of Scotland. The research is being funded by the University.

No individual will be identifiable from anything written about them from the data evaluation, or within the overall findings.
Can I ask for my information to be withdrawn after I have submitted the questionnaire?
Yes, absolutely. Participation in the research is entirely voluntary.
There was absolutely no obligation on you to take part. If you change your mind about having taken part, you have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without giving a reason. All you have to do is contact either of the research team and ask for your data to be removed from the study – their contact details are below and you can send an email at anytime after you completed the questionnaire.
